That it left my lips, but
This assistant principal chair
Is way too comfortable to care.
My cup is a playground
For my drink.
The water is a toddler
Joyfully sliding into my mouth.
Headphones deliver joy
To our ears
Like a mailman
on amazon package day.
The mouse on my desk
Is tired of being clicked on.
For the first poem, I worked on using white space and line breaks to create a stronger poem. The writer has to use the white space on the page to add to their poem. This technique can add mood, dramatic effect, and so much more. Such a sharp but straightforward tool for poets. With poetry, I provided mentor texts of what was expected. After the mentor texts, I showed how I would go about trying to create poetry. Poetry comes with so much freedom. Out of the three genres we tackled in this class, poetry was my favorite. Poetry is the art of condensed writing. So much is said in so little. That is so powerful.
